That Newsletter

My newsletter (aka That Newsletter) (aka That Anna Marie Newsletter) is where I publish my writing on a biweekly basis. I write about engineering education, social justice, and everything in between.

The free version of my newsletter releases biweekly on Sundays, and includes what I’ve been reading, listening to, and watching lately. Also, pictures of Koko.

For $5/month or $50/year, you can get access to weekly essays from me. This edition houses my hottest takes, my poetry, and anything else about the vivid, internal life of Anna Marie that you may want to know about.

Try it out for free by clicking below, or read through some selected works.

Video Content

Longform discussion on TikTok & Instagram? Imagine that!

I make educational content about STEM education, queer/trans/ace issues, and everything else in the discourse. My philosophy? “Increase Trans Joy, and Imagine Better Futures”!

Regular videos include the “Glossing Over It” series (where I explain social justice issues while painting my nails), breakdowns of how science is used to discriminate against marginalized people, and demystifying “the trans experience” to make it accessible for newcomers. The Playlists on my account will help you find all the sweet, sweet content you’re looking for. I post all the same videos on Instagram too; please don’t download TikTok just for me!

Dr. Curie’s DJ Mixes

Fun fact: I love music! I’ve been making playlists as long as I can remember, and I recently started learning how to DJ professionally.

I post my mixes—usually in the genres of house, funk, and disco—to SoundCloud and YouTube. On my YouTube channel, I take advantage of the medium of video to demonstrate my cooking skills or paint my nails while DJing in a series called “DJing while…” The conceit is that I’m a “Housewife” (a homely woman who’s a prime candidate to be somebody’s wife, but who also happens to love music). One day, when I’m ready, I hope to perform under the moniker “Dr. Curie”, an homage to another iconic Polish chemist.

Also, feel free to peruse my expansive record collection (and if you really like me, here’s my vinyl wishlist!)

Plastics In Society

Also on my YouTube channel are the lectures I produced for my summer online class, Plastics in Society.

The class itself is available to all who want to take it for college credit, and involves watching this series of videos plus completing a number of other assignments. If you just want to watch the lectures by themselves, they should be relatively accessible!

Rule 63

Rule 63 is a podcast where I discuss science, technology, media, and politics from a transfeminist perspective. Topics include asexuality, vaccine hesitancy, corporate pride, algorithmic injustice, and mentoring transgender youth.

Every episode features guests who are experts in their respective fields. Think Flash Forward, but make it trans!

Season 3 of the show, airing in 2022, will feature episodes on asexuality, transgender people in sports, internalized misogyny, and much more.

If you like the show, consider supporting my work on Patreon. For as little as $1/month, you can get access to extended guest interviews, monthly Q&A livestreams, and other bonus content!

Dining Decadent

Along with my main Instagram and podcast Instagram, I have another account where I catalog my food-related experiments.

@DiningDecadent (a play on my former handle, @BourgeiousDecadence) is just a little bit unhinged, because why not? In 2021, I learned how to make bagels, hummus, tacos, and pizza (the four food groups) and in 2022 I’m committed to make as much cake as possible.

I also try to emphasize that I’m still learning, documenting my mistakes and mishaps as well as my final results (just see my scone saga). Come learn with me!

Organizing

Local Organizing

I’ve been involved in Eastern Connecticut activism since 2019. By building multi-generational, inter-racial coalitions across the state, I’ve helped groups like Black Lives Matter Willimantic, Power Up CT, and Willimantic Rainbow Connection grow their numbers and create local change.

Recent actions include saving the Windham Hospital Maternity Ward, reallocating money from the Willimantic Police Department into our communities, organizing for police accountability, and celebrating the local Puerto Rican culture.

Now I’m moving to Massachusetts and looking to plug back in! If you have mutual aid connections in the area, please contact me.

Abolitionist Engineering Education Discord Server

Abolition (of prisons, police, military, capitalism, etc.) is as much about destroying systems of oppression as it is imagining and creating new systems of care, justice, and survival. Creating these systems requires STEM faculty who are invested in helping their students imagine better futures.

To that end, I helped co-found a network of abolitionist engineering educators on Discord. We share anti-racist resources and teaching strategies.

Join our growing network by messaging me on social media, or by using the Contact page to ask for an invite!
